It’s a grind, but after missing out on Training Camp last year, Cowboys star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is happy to be with his team in Oxnard, California, once again.
Lamb, who was holding out for a new contract last summer, said, “I love every part of being here with the guys grinding. Even when I’m tired, I think about last year and just doing the things I love with my team. Being able to work and talk with Dak (Prescott), those are the type of things that I’ve missed.”
The former OU Sooner standout admits now that missing training camp and not going through reps with quarterback Dak Prescott affected his play last year. Still, the former first-round pick in 2020 racked up almost 1,200 yards to go with six touchdowns. Lamb also achieved a lot of those numbers without Prescott, who suffered a season-ending hamstring injury in week nine.
Lamb wanted to remind everyone in the NFL that when he and Prescott are together, it’s a dangerous duo. Lamb said, “I feel like the league knows what happens when I’m healthy and I have Dak (Prescott) for a whole season,” Lamb said. “But, if you don’t, I will happily show you what it’s going to be like this year, honestly. I’m a dominant receiver. I don’t like to speak highly of myself, but I can’t wait to show you guys.”
Case in point, in 2023 Lamb set new career highs with 135 receptions for 1,749 yards to go with 12 touchdowns. The 135 receptions were also the most in the league.
Lamb has a new running mate at wide receiver this year as well, with Dallas trading for Steelers wide receiver George Pickens in the offseason. Lamb thinks the dynamic duo can be the best in the NFL, saying, “I like us versus anybody, honestly,” Lamb said. “Versus anyone. Any room. I don’t care what they be saying in the media. I see it, I ignore it. We’ll see ya’ll in September. I don’t really do too much talking.”
Lamb and the Cowboys open the season in Week 1 on Thursday night, Sept. 4, at the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles.
