ATLANTA, GA (WJBF)- Over to the NFL, the Carolina Panthers reported to training camp, and now it’s the Atlanta Falcons turn.

It’ll be the first full season with Michael Penix Jr. under center. He started the last three games of the regular season due to Kirk Cousins being benched, going 1-2 in that span. In just one of those games, he completed over 60 percent of his passes.

However, both of those losses were in overtime. As a result, the Falcons narrowly missed the playoffs, but they’re hoping that’ll change this year.

“It’s about going out there to get those game time, full speed reps. It instills just confidence, knowing that I can go out there and do the same thing that you saw in college, all of my life,” Penix Jr. said.

“I’d say the biggest thing is confidence, and I feel like chemistry with those guys as well. week one this year won’t be the first time I’m on the field with those starters.”

The Falcons start their regular season against Tampa Bay on Sunday, September 7th.
