A scary situation for the Arizona Cardinals and one of their players had the best possible outcome on Thursday. Linebacker J.J. Russell, taken to the hospital after a collision in Thursday’s practice, is okay.
The team announced via social media that Russell has returned to the team at training camp after all tests came back negative and he was released from the hospital.
Russell collided with rookie safety Kitan Crawford, helmets colliding, and went down hard. He did not get up. He was put on a board and carted to the locker room. He was taken to the hospital to be evaluated for head and neck injuries.
It was serious enough that the entire team knelt down and surrounded him, and head coach Jonathan Gannon ended practice early.
So as serious as it was, there could not have been a better result. Will Russell practice Friday? That seems unlikely, especially since the Cardinals have an off day on Saturday.
