A former Philadelphia Eagles standout and Super Bowl champion is retiring.

Jordan Hicks, a veteran linebacker and member of the Eagles’ 2017 Super Bowl team, announced on Friday that he’s hanging up the cleats after 10 years in the NFL.

Hicks, 33, was most recently with the Cleveland Browns and missed the first two days of training camp with what the team called a personal matter.

“Football has given me more than I could have ever imagined,” Hicks wrote in his retirement post. “… Most importantly it showed me who I am outside the game. I leave this chapter with deep gratitude for every lesson, challenge and victory. I’m proud of what I accomplished on the field, but even more proud of the man I’ve become because of it.”

Hicks started his career in Philadelphia. The former Texas star went No. 84 overall to the Eagles in the 2015 NFL draft. Hicks became a full-time starter on Philadelphia’s defense by his second season, racking up 85 tackles and five interceptions in 2016.

Hicks entered the 2017 season as a major part of Jim Schwartz’s defense. But a late October injury cost Hicks the rest of his season — and forced him to watch from the sidelines as the Eagles navigated the playoffs and beat the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LII.

Hicks returned to the starting lineup the following season and recorded 91 tackles and three sacks in 12 games. The linebacker parlayed that success into a big free agency move, signing a four-year, $36 million deal with the Arizona Cardinals.

Hicks spent three seasons (2019-21) with the Cardinals before joining the Minnesota Vikings for a couple years (2022-23). He finished his career with the Browns.
