The Pittsburgh Steelers hosted former Baltimore Ravens and New Orleans Saints safety Marcus Williams for a workout on Friday before signing Chuck Clark, according to the NFL transactions wire.

Williams played with the Ravens from 2022 to 2024, signing a five-year, $70 million contract, but he only saw three seasons of that deal. The Ravens hoped he could become a dynamic free safety for them.

Through the first two years, that is exactly what Williams was: intercepting five passes over those two seasons. Yet, issues arose due to injuries that kept him sidelined. In 2024, his play fell off sharply and he was benched for Ar’Darius Washington;

Over his career, Williams has primarily played free safety, but has experience at both strong and free safety. He has played in 108 career games and has 20 career interceptions and 56 pass deflections.

The Steelers have familiarity with him from his years with the Ravens. Before then, Williams was an excellent center field safety with the Saints, leading to his contract.

With the Steelers signing Clark, it makes it far less likely that Williams will ink a deal, but they could always call him up if they feel that is a huge need.
