It’s easy to fall in love with the developable flashes that Arizona State QB Sam Leavitt puts on film, but there are frustrating moments where he shows his age and limited time as a starter.
Leavitt is on the smaller side at 6’2”, 210 pounds, but makes up for it with exceptional athletic tools. There’s an element of chaos to his pocket presence, but his size and twitchiness allow him to slip through tight lanes.

Leavitt is on the higher side of average as a passer. He struggled early in the season, but noticeably improved later on. His arm strength is borderline excellent, as he can sling the ball to all levels, doesn’t lose much when throwing on the move, and knows how to put the right amount of touch on layered throws.

Leavitt’s anticipation and decision-making are average. When in rhythm, he’s accurate and on time for his first read, but it takes an extra beat to let it rip when he has to go through his progressions. He’s not a bad processor, but he’ll need to speed up his internal clock and be more decisive when there are open receivers.
The biggest area of concern is his accuracy. There were plenty of drops that hurt his completion percentage (61.7%), but he also had a bunch of terrible misses. He’s solid in the short and deeper levels, but will need a noticeable improvement in the intermediate area.

Leavitt is dynamic with his legs, both scrambling and on designed QB runs. He’s slippery, avoiding rushers in the pocket, and has good speed to eat up yards. He has good speed for college, but won’t run away from NFL defenders. That said, Leavitt is fun to watch since he’s so tough and smart as a ball carrier.
His athleticism, arm strength, and age are excellent things to work with at the next level, and seeing clear improvement as a passer throughout the season is noteworthy. Leavitt has to prove that he’s not a one-hit wonder in 2025.
