With training camps around the NFL in full swing, the New York Giants held practice for the third straight day on Friday. As usual, head coach Brian Daboll spoke with the media ahead of practice, and select players were made available after practice concluded.

One of the players who spoke with the media today is fourth-year cornerback Micah MicFadden.

McFadden is in a contract year, the last of his rookie deal, and was asked about a possible contract extension given his development and success in recent years.

Like Dexter Lawrence before him, McFadden claimed his focus was better spent elsewhere.

“I think right now, (I’m) just focused on training camp and trying to improve,” he said. “I think there’s a lot of things that I can focus on to get better. There hasn’t been anything yet, and I’m just focused on what we’re doing right now.”

Lawrence, of course, had incentives added to his contract within 24 hours of his comments.

McFadden is set to earn $3.4 million in 2025, thanks to an incentive he earned for playing a high number of snaps in his first three seasons. He’s also had back-to-back 100-tackle seasons and led the Giants in tackles in 2024.

McFadden has proven himself to be a reliable option on defense, and if the Giants want to keep him around, they’re likely looking at a notable contract to get his attention. He may not be an elite linebacker, but he is productive, he’s a leader, and he excels against the run.

The Giants’ best bet is to lock him down before the season ends, but for now, the focus is on training camp and improving the team as a whole. And McFadden’s focus on the team rather than his contract speaks volumes about his character.
