An important element that was missing from the 2024 Jacksonville Jaguars’ secondary was on display during Friday’s training camp practice.
Ball production.
Travis Holmes of Big Cat Country would write in his training camp notebook that during Friday’s practice alone, Jourdan Lewis had “at least four pass breakups.” Holmes then added that Tyson Campbell had “an equal number of PBUs” as Lewis.

Along with Lewis and Campbell’s ball production on Friday, John Shipley of Jaguars on SI would also write that Jarrian Jones had a pass breakup of his own in the end zone.
Last season, the Jaguars‘ defense generated the third-fewest interceptions in football. They also allowed the ninth-highest completion rate and the second-highest opponent passer rating.
To remedy this, GM James Gladstone made several additions this offseason, signing veterans Eric Murray and Lewis, along with drafting Travis Hunter and Caleb Ransaw.
But also a key part of the equation will be Anthony Campanile’s defensive scheme. This is going to be a much more zone-heavy Jaguars’ defense in 2025, and one that prioritizes a vision-based approach, which means all eyes on the quarterback, hopefully leading to more ball production.

Campanile is also introducing a very malleable defensive scheme, one that leverages the versatility on the Jaguars’ roster in order to throw a variety of looks at opponents, and one that will adapt quickly, prioritizing what the specific matchups are each week.
“I think you’re always going through that throughout the season,” Campanile said via Jaguars on SI. “One of the beautiful things about football is, it can be so personnel and package oriented based on the opponent and what they’re putting out there from a personnel perspective or who those guys actually are.”
“What’s the best matchup? A lot of times that decides who you play, and who’s playing in the game. So we try to do that all the way through to the end of the season and I think that’s a big part of evaluation as a coach.”
