Denver Broncos QB Bo Nix had a wildly successful rookie year.
He threw 29 touchdowns, the sixth most in the league, and led the Broncos to the playoffs for the first time since 2015.
And the rest of the league noticed, ranking Bo Nix as the 64th best player in the NFL in the top-100 list that is being revealed this summer.
After training camp practice on Saturday, Nix was asked about that accomplishment. He clearly is proud of it, but not yet satisfied.
“It’s obviously a cool honor, cause that’s what your peers think. Guys you play. But at the same time, just the way I think, the way I am motivated, I want to continue to get higher,” Nix said.
If Bo Nix can help the Broncos win the AFC West for the first time in a decade, you can bet he’ll be in the top-30 or so next year. But that’s not what motivates him.
“It doesn’t really matter what you’re ranked. It’s just an internal standard that I have that I want to be the best in the world and I know there’s a lot of guys that I’m competing for that with. I’m not going to stop until I at least give it my best try,” Nix said.
That’s the right mindset from Denver’s leader, worried more about a potential Lombardi Trophy than a ranking on a list. And he knows this year will be a grind, one that’s all about getting hot at the right time.
“It’s kind of like a mountain when you start early in the season. Once you get to playoffs, championship time, you’re peaking. And then after the season you can take your time off,” Nix said.
Bo Nix is the Broncos best QB since Peyton Manning. He’s saying all the right things too. Now, he’ll continue to work through camp and the preseason.
And all of Denver can’t wait for real football to get here on Sept. 7 against the Tennessee Titans.
