MIAMI GARDENS — The Miami Dolphins plan to sign 31-year-old, seven-year veteran cornerback Mike Hilton, who spent his past four seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, the South Florida Sun Sentinel has confirmed.
The transaction was first reported by NFL reporter Jordan Schultz.
The Hilton acquisition comes on the day that nickel/slot cornerback Kader Kohou went down in practice with an apparent right leg injury, further depleting a group that was eyed with suspicion.
Hilton, arguably the best defensive back the Bengals had in recent years, has played more than 4,700 snaps in the nickel/slot during his career.
Hilton played heavily for the Bengals in the past four seasons recording 739 snaps (70 percent) in 2024, 878 (80 percent) in 2023, 701 snaps (77 percent) in 2022, and 803 snaps (71 percent in 2021).
The Hilton acquisition also comes the same day the Dolphins signed cornerback Jack Jones, who last played for the New England Patriots, and two days after the Dolphins signed cornerback Cornell Armstrong, one of their 2018 draftees.
Hilton (5 foot 9, 184 pounds) was originally signed by the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi in 2016, where he played alongside former Dolphins Laremy Tunsil, the left tackle who was Miami’s 2016 first-round pick, and defensive tackle Robert Nkemdiche (2019).
After being released by the Jaguars, Hilton joined New England (2016), then the Pittsburgh Steelers (2016-20) and then the Bengals.
Hilton made 36 starts for the Bengals while playing 64 games and recording six interceptions.
Hilton has 11 career interceptions and 456 tackles.
