The Denver Broncos could be building a new stadium.
Or, maybe not.
Broncos president Damani Leech met with the media on Saturday before training camp, and it was a lot of the same. There’s no firm update, as the Broncos will play at Empower Field at Mile High for the foreseeable future.
As far as if the Walton-Penner Family Ownership Group (WPFOG) will look to potentially build a new stadium in Denver, Leech isn’t committing to anything.
Asked whether the Burnham Yard site is the preferred site, Broncos president Damani Leech says no decisions have been made about a preferred sites for a potential new Broncos stadium. Also added later that renovation of current stadium is still in conversation. pic.twitter.com/1rgTIVxGqK

“We have not made any decisions about preferred sites. What you’ve heard from us is really at a city level, so city conversations, city viewing, Denver, Aurora, Lone Tree. Beyond that the levels and details there, no decisions have been made,” Leech told reporters.
According to reports, the WPFOG recently purchased land in Denver, worth about $150 million, near Burnham Yard. That seems to be the leader in the clubhouse, but Leech isn’t tipping the franchise’s hand.
“We’re not going to put a timetable on it. This is a 30-, 40-, 50-year decision that we don’t want to rush by a matter of weeks here or there. We’re going to continue to do our due diligence until we feel like we’re in a position to make the right decision,” Leech said.
In terms of the urgency to find a new home for the Broncos, Leech has 2030 circled on the calendar.
“We feel like the stadium is really in great shape. That being said, in five more years, our lease will be up and it’ll be a 30-year-old stadium,” Leech said. “So that’s certainly something we’re thinking about. We’re also thinking about this in terms of the next 30 years and what we’ll need to serve our football program but also our fans.”
In the meantime, stay tuned. The Broncos could be on the move, and Denver, Aurora and Lone Tree are all options.
While we wait for answers, just be glad the football team is good again. At the end of the day, that’s the most important thing.
