Jaguars’ RB Travis Etienne recently weighed in on Liam Coen’s offense and how it can provide this unit with a boost.

As Jacksonville Jaguars’ running back Travis Etienne said after Friday’s practice, this new-look offense under Liam Coen is very different, but he’s a big fan of it.

“It’s very different,” Etienne said about the offense to Jamal St. Cyr. “I feel like they’re very detailed. I feel like Coen, he knows what he’s doing, and he put us in position to make plays. Put us in position to get those four and five yards and in a position to make that big play.

“We just gotta keep listening and keep pressing the line of scrimmage and just keep getting better at it each and every day.”

Etienne is coming off a down season in 2024, which included him averaging just 3.7 yards per rush and totaling 558 rushing yards with only two touchdowns.

To remedy this, Coen has prioritized this offseason finding ways to get Etienne the ball in space, which is where he has been at his best throughout his career.

Moving Etienne around and finding creative ways to get him the ball in the open field feeds into that multiplicity element that is crucial to Coen’s scheme.

By moving players around and asking them each to fill a variety of roles, it allows Coen to run a number of plays from just a few personnel groupings, which can create mismatches, along with like-plays, or plays that look the same but are actually quite different.

This then keeps defenses off balance and guessing with it being much more difficult to get a beat on what’s coming just based on who is on the field or where players are lined up.

“Most definitely,” Etienne said about being moved around a lot more. “I feel like that’s what coach is about. I feel like he’s getting the playmakers in places to make plays and I really love that.

“I feel like it’s going to help us throughout the season. They won’t be able to know what we’re doing. We’re going to be very versatile, be able to keep defenses on their toes, and just be able to attack them each and every way.”
