For the first time at this season’s training camp, Vikings fans were in the stands Saturday at the TCO Center cheering for players as they practiced in the summer heat. For newcomers like Javon Hargrave, it was a first taste of playing in front of Vikings faithful.

Hargrave is coming off playing just three games last season with the San Francisco 49ers after suffering an injury early on. He’s heading into year 10 in the NFL and said he’s adjusting well to the new scenery in Minnesota.

Turner is heading into his second year with the Vikings, playing in 16 games last season. He had three sacks and one interception last season, most of which came in his last four games.

“We’re going in the right direction,” Turner said.

Murphy agreed to a three-year contract with the Vikings in March to return for his third season in Minnesota. He said he’s been very impressed with J.J. McCarthy so far in training camp, mentioning his leadership as a defining quality.

Before practice, the team announced Josh Metellus agreed to a contract extension. Both Turner and Murphy expressed their excitement for Metellus in interviews with KSTP Sports.

“We shook hands and did a dance throughout the whole building,” Murphy said. “That type of guy, that type of leader deserves it.”

The Vikings open the preseason against the Houston Texans on August 9 at U.S. Bank Stadium.
