Former Seattle Seahawks tight end Noah Fant is visiting the Miami Dolphins in free agency, according to a report by Jordan Schultz. Fant has been busy since the Seahawks released him right before training camp began. The Dolphins will mark his third visit, after he previously met with the Cincinnati Bengals and New Orleans Saints.

The Dolphins are understandably in the market for a tight end. They dealt starter Jonnu Smith (along with Jalen Ramsey) to the Pittsburgh Steelers in June in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and draft-pick compensation. Fant would immediately become Smith’s replacement as the starting tight end in Miami’s offense.

The decision to release Fant arrived two days before Seattle reported to training camp. Seahawks general manager John Schneider cleared nearly $9 million in salary cap space by releasing him. Fant had recorded a modest 48 receptions for 500 yards and one touchdown last season, and was slated to enter the final year of his contract.

The Seahawks will move forward with a young tandem at TE. Rookie Elijah Arroyo and sophomore AJ Barner will play the majority of snaps at the position for Mike Macdonald this season. Meanwhile, Fant is touring the entire NFL while searching for the right fit for his next stop.
