ASCENSION PARISH, La. (WAFB) – A man has pleaded guilty after discarding a gun following a shooting near a high school football stadium, prosecutors said.
According to the 23th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, Jeremiah Preston, 23, of Gonzales, pleaded guilty to possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Prosecutors said the guilty plea was the result of a plea agreement.
The shooting happened on October 27, 2023, near the Donaldsonville High School football stadium. Officials said that the incident claimed the life of Tyree Parker and left a second person injured.
Prosecutors said that following the shooting, Preston allegedly picked up the weapon used, took off from the scene, and then got rid of the firearm. Investigators said they obtained video and a social media conversation involving Preston, which corroborated the details of what happened.
Malik Fowler, 23, of Gonzales, also pleaded guilty in connection with the shooting, authorities said. His guilty plea was for manslaughter.

According to prosecutors, someone punched Fowler through the driver’s side window of a vehicle. They added that Fowler then exited the vehicle, walked up to a crowd, and fired multiple shots.
Investigators said that Preston was seen in the vehicle with Fowler immediately following the shooting.
Preston was sentenced to 15 years with the Louisiana Department of Corrections with credit for time served. Fowler is awaiting sentencing.
