It’s challenging to discuss football and find ways to blend quotes from old Denzel Washington movies, unless, of course, we’re talking about Remember the Titans. However, even that can be difficult because there’s no real Philadelphia Eagles parallel. The phrase must come naturally, and in the case it does. Remember when Washington looked at Ethan Hawke in Training Day and yelled, ‘It’s chess, not checkers!’? Now, close your eyes, and swap Washington with Howie Roseman. The scene still works, doesn’t it?

Okay… Maybe not… You get the idea, though. Philadelphia’s vice president/general manager hasn’t always been above reproach, but once he settled in, boy, did he ever! He’s functioning on a different level than everyone else, except for a handful of guys league-wide.

Jerry Jones is brilliant, but he’s a billionaire playing GM. Roseman, on the other hand, was built for this. Look no further than the recent extension drawn up by the Dallas Cowboys owner.

Howie Roseman’s brilliance is again demonstrated without the Eagles GM lifting a finger.

It never gets old. Botched organizational moves and overpaying for marginal talent have become staples of the Dallas Cowboys organization. You’ve all probably seen the news by now. Dallas has agreed to terms on a four-year, $52 million extension with tight end Jake Ferguson, and, as was the case with Rashawn Slater’s four-year, $114 million deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, Howie Roseman’s genius has again been proven without him needing to lift a finger.

Dallas has guaranteed $30 million to the former 2022 fourth-round draft selection. Meanwhile, Dak Prescott, who is barely in the top ten on most QB power rankings (if he is even ranked that high), earns an average of $60 million per season. And, poor Micah Parsons. How about what he’s going through?

He is certainly frustrated with his negotiations, but he has elected to attend the Dallas Cowboys camp anyway. He doesn’t have a new deal, and from the outside looking in, unless we’re missing something, it doesn’t seem he’s any closer to seeing his payday than he was a month ago.

This season, Jake Ferguson will earn $3.5 million but will eventually cash in at $13 million per season. He’s good, but he isn’t worth that much. At some point, his deal will eventually handcuff the Cowboys in their attempts to retain their better players, but again. That’s the Cowboys’ way.

Dallas has outdone itself again, but what does that say? Salaries are bigger in Texas, or something like that. Take a bow, Mr. Jones. Philadelphia’s front office is applauding. Your team isn’t any better than it was a week ago, and you’re continuing to ensure the NFC East is a two-team race. Thanks to Howie Roseman, the Philadelphia Eagles are one of the favored horses.
