As Deion Sanders opened up about the extent of his recent health issues, he praised Randy Moss for being an integral part of his support system.

Speaking alongside two members of his medical team on Monday, Sanders held a press conference revealing his bout with bladder cancer this past offseason, resulting in the removal of his bladder and the cancerous tumor. After successful surgery, Sanders is now cancer-free and ready to continue coaching the Colorado Buffaloes. While speaking to the media, Sanders began listing names of people he wanted to thank, including Hall of Fame wide receiver and current ESPN analyst, Randy Moss.

“Randy Moss called me every other day to make sure I was straight,” Sanders said. “Randy Moss prayed for me, he and his wife told me what I needed to be doing. He’s gone through some things very similar. But Randy Moss, man. I love him to life. Love him more than ever…He gave me so much strength and so much guidance and so much love, respect, and appreciation. Thank you, Randy. I really appreciate you. I really do.”

As Sanders noted, Moss recently went through something similar. The ESPN analyst missed the final two months of the 2024 NFL season after revealing he was diagnosed with cancer outside his bile duct, affecting liver function. Thankfully, both former NFL stars are now cancer-free after their tumors were caught in time.

Last Thanksgiving, Moss underwent a six-hour procedure to have the cancer removed, leading to his emotional return to ESPN for their Super Bowl Sunday coverage earlier this year. This upcoming season, Moss will reportedly make a full-time return to NFL Countdown on ESPN.

Through his own experiences, Moss became an invaluable resource for Sanders in recent months. And by being open about his cancer diagnosis and surgery, Sanders can now be that same resource for others.

“Please get yourself checked out,” Sanders urged others during the press conference. “Because it could have been a whole other gathering if I hadn’t.”
