ASU running back Cam Skattebo made changes after last season

ASU running back Cam Skattebo was asked what changes he made after last season during media day ahead of the Peach Bowl.

New York Giants‘ training camp is underway, and rookie running back and former Arizona State standout Cam Skattebo has impressed pundits and the team’s coach, Brian Daboll, with his gap reads and playmaking abilities.

Throughout Giants’ training camp, we’ll be tracking the progress of the former ASU star as he begins his rookie season. Check back for updates:

Giants’ coach Brian Daboll’s early impressions of Cam Skattebo

Brian Daboll was asked by the media after the Giants’ practice on July 28 about Cam Skattebo’s vision before and after hand-offs and pass-catches.

“There’s not many times that I’ve seen him here, just in a short time or even on tape, like, why is he going where he’s going?” Daboll said. “He’s got a good feel for the blocking assignments up front, but then he’s got good vision for the second level, and at times the third level of when to press the ball, when to cut it back, when to keep it front side.”

Daboll added that Skattebo is still a rookie who’s “got a lot of way to go,” but has been “encouraging” in the team’s meetings and practices.

Skattebo was the No. 105 overall pick in April’s NFL draft, the fourth of the Giants’ seven total selections. Skattebo has been deemed a steal by the rebuilding Giants, who finished 3-14 last year. They were tied for the league’s worst record alongside the Tennessee Titans and Cleveland Browns.

Skattebo helped lead ASU to the 2024 Big 12 title, the school’s first conference championship since it won the Pac-12 in 1996, and a first-round bye in the College Football Playoffs in his senior season. He finished fifth in the Heisman voting, had 24 touchdowns and 2,316 scrimmage yards, the first Sun Devil to exceed 2,000 yards from scrimmage in a season, and his 1,711 rushing yards set another ASU record.
