The Seattle Seahawks entered training camp hosting a position battle at fullback. New offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak has effectively used a fullback in his offense in recent years. Kubiak was previously an assistant for the San Francisco 49ers, who have the best player at the position in Kyle Juszczyk.
The position battle at fullback was initially between Brady Russell and rookie fifth-round pick Robbie Ouzts. Though Russell has continued to showcase versatility at practice, he’s spent more time working as a traditional tight end at recent sessions.

That leaves Ouzts as the lone fullback, per multiple reporters in attendance.
Kubiak used Adam Prentice as his fullback as the New Orleans’ Saints offensive coordinator last season. With Russell working back at his initial TE position, that indicates the 274-pound Ouzts has already won the battle. Ouzts came into camp envisioning himself being a battering ram and lead blocker for Kubiak’s run-heavy offense.
Ouzts wasn’t a receiving threat at Alabama. An in-line blocker first and foremost, he accumulated just 16 receptions in four campaigns with the Crimson Tide. The Seahawks needed a fullback to make Kubiak’s offense click, and Ouzts appears to be carving out a role for himself as the lead blocker this coming season.
