The Giants opened with 1-on-1 drills as rookie Jaxson Dart threw two touchdowns of 40 yards apiece to wide receiver Montrell Washington. There was a high degree of difficulty on both throws and catches.
“I don’t want to play like a robot,” Dart, the 25th overall draft pick, said recently. “I think that’s just my play style. When I’m on the field, I’m going to be aggressive in any situation. A statement that, I guess a quote that we go by in the quarterback room is being aggressive but not reckless. And so, when you have opportunities to put the dagger in, that’s what you got to do.
“And at the same time, you can’t be reckless and it’s just situational based as an offense. You look at the turnover margins and the turnover ratio of the most successful teams in the league to the least successful team, and that’s probably the number one thing that goes into it. So, you have to keep those things in mind, but at the same time you got to be a dog on the field and make those plays when they’re there.”
Moving to team drills, Russell Wilson kicked things off with a red-zone touchdown pass to Daniel Bellinger. It was a nice play design as the veteran quarterback rolled to the right and hit the wide-open tight end for the score.
Running backs Devin Singletary and Dante Miller both found the end zone on the ground.
Dart threw to Lil’Jordan Humphrey at the front right pylon and the wide receiver spun and stretched out for the touchdown.
Tommy DeVito connected with undrafted rookie wide receiver Dalen Cambre in the end zone for what appeared to be a touchdown. Rookie cornerback TJ Moore punched the ball out at the end of the play, which likely would have gone to a replay review.
Darius Slayton capped practice with a tough touchdown catch on a pass from Wilson, who backpedaled to buy time for the receiver to get some daylight.
