Linebacker R.J. Moten made his Patriots practice debut Tuesday, wearing No. 46.
Moten, an undrafted rookie out of Florida, joined New England following a stint with the Michigan Panthers in the UFL. A former safety at the University of Michigan, the 6-foot, 224-pound Moten tallied 88 total tackles, two sacks and five passes defended across 88 collegiate games.
To clear a 90-man roster spot, the Patriots placed UDFA fullback Brock Lampe on injured reserve.
Signed in May out of Northern Illinois, Lampe was viewed as a viable candidate to crack the 53-man roster, as offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels’ scheme traditionally has featured a fullback. James Develin and later Jakob Johnson filled that role during McDaniels’ prior Patriots tenure.
Lampe participated in Monday’s training camp practice but was absent from Tuesday’s session. Following his move to IR, the Patriots no longer have a fullback on their roster.
