Over the last couple years, the Houston Texans have largely done a good job fortifying their roster and developing young players. When you do those two things, there are fewer questions heading into the various junctures of the NFL calendar year.

Indeed, the Texans enter training camp this week with the few major questions about position groups residing on the offensive side of the ball, and with the few questions about individuals centering around a couple of defensive contributors (we hope). With that in mind, here are four questions that I have right off the top at the outset of Texans Camp 2025:

Does Christian Harris get on the field?
Last season at about this time, early in camp, there was no bigger enigma than Harris, who was a third year linebacker who had finished 2023 playing the best football of his career.  However, camp started last summer, and Harris was nowhere to be found. As it turns out, he was getting treated for an undisclosed injury (turned out to be a calf). He returned to the practice field a couple weeks into camp, practiced for 30 minutes, and then wasn’t seen until Week 15 against the Dolphins. Harris saw minimal snaps after his return to the field in 2024, and now he’s been rehabbing some sort of ailment throughout the spring. DeMeco Ryans said several weeks ago that Harris would be good to go for training camp, but his journey has been so weird, I don’t know what to believe.

What is going on with Jimmie Ward?
Back in June, just after minicamp ended, Ward was arrested at his home in Montgomery County for a felony assault charge following an alleged incident of family violence against his fiancée. Ward denies wrongdoing, and is looking forward to his day in court. The NFL is conducting its own investigation into the matter to see if handing down an eventual suspension makes sense. It’s messy, and it’s something the Texans rarely deal with, particularly with a player like Ward who’s been a team captain the last two seasons. This Wednesday, both GM Nick Caserio and head coach DeMeco Ryans will meet with the media, and we will see if Ward will be a participant at camp, and what his current status with the team is.

Who steps up along the offensive line?
This time last year, the Texans were rolling with a starting five along the offensive line that felt etched in stone. The abysmal results during the season in that position group would indicate that the team took the wrong approach. Now, with Laremy Tunsil shipped off to Washington, every position within that group is up for grabs, and it will be fascinating to watch the camp battles. If I were predicting right now, I feel strongly that Cam Robinson and Blake Fisher will be the two tackles, and Tytus Howard will be at one of the guard spots. After that, it may as well be a combination of Survivor and American Idol as they figure out what this all looks like.

What does a Nick Caley offense look like?
By the midway point of last season, the league had figured out offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik’s offense. Opposing defenses played like they knew what was coming, and thus, Slowik is now an assistant in Miami and we enter the Nick Caley Era on offense for the Texans. Caley’s background is part Patriots and part Rams, so how he marries those two schemes is super intriguing. Also, it’s believed that C.J. Stroud will have far more pre-snap control at the line of scrimmage in Caley’s offense, something Stroud has wanted for some time now. The Caley offense will definitely get tested every day, as they’ll be facing one of the most fearsome defenses in the sport.
