Day Six of Packers Training Camp Gets Chippy

On day six of Green Bay Packers training camp, the temperature was not the only thing to get a little heated.

Day six also marked the second day the green and gold were in pads, and with the contact came the competition and some fighting spirit.

Throughout the day, drills and scrimmages that pit the offense against the defense produced pushing, choice words, and a few punches thrown.

Although nothing major broke out, players like offensive lineman Sean Rhyan didn’t have any problem with it.

“It’s hard when you have a bunch of dudes who want to be the best, it just happens,” he explained. “It’s like being in a cage with somebody, eventually things are going to pop off, but being a team, you have to be able to realize that it’s getting out of hand and be able to draw back a little bit. But I think it’s a good thing.”

3rd year receiver Jayden Reed echoed Rhyan’s sentiment.

“It’s football, man,” he said. “This is a game where there aren’t a lot of rules out there. When you go out there you have to be feisty and physical, it’s a part of this game.”

Star running back Josh Jacobs said he liked the edge the guys showed yesterday, but that there’s a limit to it as well.

The NFL Veteran noted, “It’s a thin line between playing hard and being a little chippy and doing a little bit too much.”

Day six also showed just how competitive this Packers team can be as both sides of the ball traded blows with neither the offense nor the defense coming out of practice with a clear advantage.

2nd year Linebacker Edgerrin Cooper looked to be the most impressive on the defensive side of things, coming away from practice with two would-be sacks and a tackle for loss.

Offensively, it was Jacobs and Green Bay’s first-round draft pick, Matthew Golden, who highlighted the offensive attack.

Golden had the most noteworthy play of the day, taking the top off the defense to score a long touchdown thanks to a perfect in-stride toss from quarterback Jordan Love.

Reed added that additions like Golden, veteran Mecole Hardman Jr., and rookie Will Shappard make an already loaded wide receiving room even more dangerous.

“I honestly believe we’ve got the deepest receiving room in the league,” he said boldly. “We’ve got a lot of different players that can do a lot of different things. I think that’s what makes our group so dynamic.”

The pack will have the day off today before hitting Ray Nitschke Field to round out the week in preparation for Packers Family Night, taking place on Saturday (August 2nd) at Lambeau Field.
