The Vikings‘ defense is the tone setter of the entire team in 2025, just as it was in 2024.
Led by playmakers off the edge and in the secondary, Brian Flores coaches a unit that is arguably among the best in the NFL. With the likes of Andrew Van Ginkel, Jonathan Greenard, Harrison Smith, and more, they can handle anything opposing offenses throw at them.

So far in training camp for the team, Kevin O’Connell and his offense have been overwhelmed at times by the work of Flores’ defense. Because of that, O’Connell couldn’t be more excited for what the unit is looking to be.
He told Sports Illustrated’s Will Ragatz that, “To think it’s not even August yet and we’re getting that type of cohesiveness among that first group defensively… My expectations are very, very high for our defense.”
Last year, the defense had several Pro Bowlers, and they all return in 2025. On top of that, the team adds in the likes of Javon Hargrave, Jonathan Allen, and Isaiah Rodgers, and it gives them a dynamic amount of depth in terms of defensive playmakers.
Just like NFL offenses are deep in their war chest, so are defenses, and the Vikings are proving to be ready for anything.
