Tyrann Mathieu played with Patrick Mahomes as his quarterback for three seasons while with the Kansas City Chiefs. And while the recently retired cornerback won’t diminish Mahomes’ talent, he believes it’s too soon to call Mahomes the greatest of all time.

“I would say he’s a great quarterback, but greatest of all time, I think that’s still reserved for (Tom) Brady,” Mathieu said during a recent appearance on “Up & Adams.” “And I think with Brady, that’s just longevity. That’s respect. That’s just playing against this guy on the biggest stages. He was one of the most competitive (and) accurate. He just had a single mindset to win—win by any means necessary. He was always a challenge to go up against. Being the greatest of all time, I don’t think it’s like an eight, nine, 10-year thing.”

The longstanding debate of whether Brady or Mahomes is the better quarterback reached a new level earlier this year when the Chiefs signal caller went to his third straight Super Bowl. Kansas City ended up falling to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The Chiefs were looking to three-peat — something Brady’s New England Patriots never did over their two-decade run of dominance in the NFL. Mahomes still has three rings before the age of 30, but Brady finished his career with seven.

Brady beat Mahomes twice in the playoffs — the 2018 AFC Championship Game and Super Bowl LV.

It’s still possible Mahomes wins seven championships. But for now, Mathieu is keeping the GOAT label for Brady.
