The Tennessee Titans drafted Cam Ward first overall in the 2025 NFL draft, but the young gunslinger feels as if going so high in the draft did little to endear him to his peers, and even that there is a target on his back now.
“I don’t care about the hype,” he said. “I don’t care about social media. All I care about is this 100-yard field. … At the end of the day, football takes care of everything.
“I don’t think I’m being welcomed in [the league] with open arms,” Ward added. “I was the first pick. I’m blessed to be that. But at the end of the day, there’s a target on my back. There’s a target on everyone’s back in the league, but I’m trying to prove myself to my teammates.”
That wasn’t all Ward had to say, either. He also let his own teammates hear it about how he feels the team has looked through the early part of training camp.
“I just think we’re very mid right now,” Ward said, according to Underdog NFL.
Fans reacted to Ward’s shocking statement on social media.
“hey cant get mad at the transparency. continue to work hard,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“I’ve seen enough this kid is gonna lead the titans to the Super Bowl,” someone else added.
“People gotta realize you’d rather have QB saying this than pretending a dumpster fire is ok,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Ward’s teammates feel about his strong words.
