Mike McDaniel offers heartbreaking injury update for one of Dolphins’ few established standouts in a much maligned secondary originally appeared on A to Z Sports.
The Miami Dolphins have become one of the teams in the NFL known for some rough injury luck over the past few seasons. They’re going to have a hard time beating that reputation once again in the early chapters of the 2025 season. Miami entered into this year’s training camp with major questions in the secondary and, before the end of the first week, suffered injuries to names such as cornerback Artie Burns, safety Ashtyn Davis, and the team’s most established incumbent cornerback, Kader Kohou.
Kohou’s status got an update from Mike McDaniel on Wednesday morning and it is, unfortunately, not good.

Kader Kohou will go on season-ending injured reserve

Kader Kohou, the team’s fourth-year cornerback and most proven incumbent talent in a remade secondary, will miss the 2025 season. Kohou was injured covering Tyreek Hill in a one-on-one rep during the team’s Saturday practice, falling to the ground while playing in the trail position after Hill broke at the top of the stem.
After several days of waiting for the swelling to go down, Kohou’s update was indeed the worst case scenario. It’s tough luck for Miami’s secondary but the flurry of moves the team made at the end of last week should offer veteran support. Cornerbacks Jack Jones and Mike Hilton offer some veteran experience and should have plenty of time to prep for elevated roles with Kohou’s departure.
It’s a particularly sad turn of events for Kohou, who appeared to be turning the corner in 2024 after playing under three different defensive coordinators in his first three seasons in the NFL. An undrafted free agent out of Texas A&M Commerce, Kohou was playing this season on a restricted free agent tender and set to try to prove himself worthy of a big contract. Instead, he’ll have to channel his energy on rehabbing whatever specific hand he’s been dealt to open training camp.
