The Atlanta Falcons are working out safety Jordan Whitehead, according to a report from NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo. Whitehead, 28, is an experienced veteran with 101 starts under his belt since entering the league in 2018.
The former fourth-round pick has recorded 557 tackles (394 solo), 11 interceptions and 45 passes defended over seven NFL seasons. Whitehead spent his first four seasons with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before joining the New York Jets in 2022.
After starting 34 games in New York, Whitehead returned to the Bucs in 2024 and started 12 games. However, his season was cut short after suffering an injury during a car crash.
According to Garafolo, Whitehead has been fully cleared to return to football activities.
Atlanta doesn’t appear to have much of a need at safety. Not only did the Falcons sign veteran Jordan Fuller, but they selected Notre Dame safety Xavier Watts in the third round of the 2025 NFL draft. Fuller has starting experience and played for Raheem Morris when he was with the Los Angeles Rams.
Watts has already received some first-team reps during training camp and some think he will enter the season as the other starter next to Jessie Bates III. However, just because the team is working out Whitehead doesn’t mean he will sign with Atlanta.
The Falcons could just be doing their due diligence, as they did with veteran wide receiver DJ Chark. The team activated cornerback Cobee Bryant and defensive lineman LaCale London on Tuesday.
