The Chicago Bears‘ Day 3 has kicked off with another interesting selection by Ryan Poles. Maryland Senior LB, Ruben Hyppolite II, became the Bears’ 5th pick in the 2025 NFL draft at pick 132.

This pick came after another trade down with the Buffalo Bills by exchanging pick 109 for 132 and 169.

Hyppolite II comes to Chicago after 138 solo tackles, 3 sacks, and 1 INT across 5 seasons in Maryland.

Let’s see how social media is reacting:

On ESPN, @FieldYates describing new Bears LB Ruben Hyppolite II: “It looks like he has rocket launchers attached to his feet.”

The Bears go linebacker at No. 132. Their first pick of the day is Maryland LB Ruben Hyppolite II.

Still no running back for Chicago. Would have to imagine Tuten and Skattebo coming off the board before the Bears were on the clock originally at 109 had to be disappointing.

Do not know Ruben Hyppolite II but that’s a heck of a name

Many are surprised by the pick as he was ranked as being a 7th round or later prospect:

Not gonna lie. Don’t know much about Ruben Hyppolite II, who the Bears took at 132. Not on my board. Wasn’t invited to the Combine.@FDuffyNFL had him as an UDFA.@dpbrugler had him under “best of the rest” of the LBs. UDFA grade.

Bears have this year’s honor of taking the first player I didn’t watch a single snap of (doesn’t mean it’s an inherently bad pick I just don’t have a take), impressed I lasted to pick 132.

Shoutout Ruben Hyppolite III

Check out what WCG’s Jacob Infante has to say:

The #Bears take Maryland linebacker Ruben Hyppolite II with the No. 132 overall pick.

One word: speed. He ran a 4.42 40-yard dash at his Pro Day. Started 47 career games and was a captain for the Terrapins. pic.twitter.com/kcbHuqXOvl

Clearly, Ryan Poles, Ben Johnson, and Dennis Allen see something in Hyppolite’s athletic profile. Let’s see if they can develop him into a Special Teams ace or something even more.

EDITOR: And we have a late addition for the Tweet of the day!
