GREENVILLE, N.C. (WITN) – D.H. Conley has either had an even or losing record for five straight years now, but this year’s team is confident in changing that.
Bringing back 13 of 22 starters from last year, team chemistry should be a plus for the Vikings, and it all starts with Senior Quarterback Samari Cabell, who’s focused on one thing…
“A conference championship, for sure, and then I feel like we can go deep in the playoffs, but I feel like we can win this conference. I know everybody sleeping on us, but that’s every year for us,” Cabell said.
As he and the Vikings attack this new-look Big Carolina Conference, they welcome White Oak to the mix while Havelock and Northside (Jacksonville) left this offseason.
On the defensive side, six guys come back from last year’s unit (Middle Linebacker Landon Bossolono, Linebacker Bryson Roach, Defensive Lineman Caden Leneave, Safety Dallas Carmon, Cornerback Andrew Desoto, and Defensive Back Mason Sortini).
Then on offense, three linemen come back (Ross Chandler, Tucker Jackson, & David Richardson), Elijah Taft prepares to be the feature Running Back, and both Shammah Cabell and Jacob Stilley are back at receiver.
If Shammah’s last name sounds familiar, that’s because his older brother is the Vikings’ 3-year starting quarterback.
“This year he’s the guy, it’s a lot of fun playing with him,” Samari said of his brother, “We’ve been playing backyard football since we were little.”
D.H. Conley will open this season at home, when they host Laney on August 22nd.
