Jerry Jones throws jab at Micah Parsons during ongoing contract talks
Jones Jones says even if they sign Micah Parsons to an extension, that doesn’t mean he’ll be playing.
Sports Seriously
The Detroit Lions need pass rush help opposite Aidan Hutchinson. And now another elite edge rusher could be on the block.
Micah Parsons wants to be traded from the Dallas Cowboys.
“Unfortunately, I no longer want to be here,” Parsons wrote as part of a longer message posted to his social media Friday afternoon.
The Lions have all of their future first-round picks to trade, as well as second-round picks.
However, a blockbuster move seems extremely unlikely, since the Lions would have to give Parsons the new contract he desires — and has earned. Parsons, 26, is on the final year of his rookie deal entering the 2025 season.
It’s a turn in messaging from Parsons from the start of training camp. “I want to be here,” Parsons said July 22. “At the end of the day, they sign the checks. Let’s see if they want me to be here.”
Parsons is a three-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler who has 52½ sacks in four seasons (63 regular-season games) after being selected 12th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Penn State.
Micah Parsons trade package
What could a trade package look like for an in-his-prime Parsons?
Khalil Mack was 27 when he was traded in 2018 from Oakland to Chicago along with a second-round pick and conditional fifth-rounder for two firsts, a third and a sixth.
Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Trey Hendrickson also wants to be traded. Hendrickson is 30.
