NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – “We just need more padded work.”
That was Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan’s reasoning for adding an extra day of practice to the training camp schedule.
“Felt like it was probably the right decision for us just to get another practice in pads. It won’t be as long as some of our normal long padded practices, but to put the pads on and get another day worth of banging in there I think is going to be good for us.”
Serendipitously, the weather for the added practice was much milder than any day prior in training camp. So, that was an added bonus as the team hit the field for extra work.

“Honestly, I’m so used to coaches throwing things out like that during training camp. It’s just part of what you do,” said right guard Kevin Zeitler. “You change it up. Set an expectation and then ‘bam’ you just never know what’s going to happen in this league. It’s a great way to work mental toughness. It was also a great day today.”
“It’s like sudden change and you got to go get ready,” said receiver Tyler Lockett. “So, I think that’s kind of what today was. Sudden change, it’s not going to be a jog-through today. We’re going to put on full pads and we’re going to go. How is everybody going to respond? And I think everybody came to practice.”
The Titans will practice three more times in Nashville before heading to Tampa Bay next week to prepare for their preseason opener at the Buccaneers on August 9.
