The Tennessee Titans were back in action for this originally unscheduled padded practice on Friday and put in a solid day’s work.
The offense did improve after a day off, although the running game is still outpacing the passing attack. Cam Ward also took a step forward. While he still threw an interception, it appeared to be a miscommunication between him and receiver Tyler Lockett.
The Titans will be back in action tomorrow for another padded practice. Until then, here are five takeaways from the session.
Increased energy
After what was described as two low-energy practices, the Titans came out with a bit more intensity during this session, and it was noticeable. Look for that energy and intensity to continue to build as the team prepares to face off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in their first preseason game next weekend.
The defense brought the heat
The Titans’ defense used a lot of cover-one and cover-zero during team sessions on Friday, forcing Cam Ward to get the ball out quickly. The unit practiced without T’Vondre Sweat, but still was able to apply pressure from the interior and notched two more batted balls by Jeffery Simmons and Arden Key.
Proche is making a case
Originally thought of as more of a return specialist, wide receiver James Proche has been having a solid camp and is working his way into contention. Proche has stacked back-to-back practices, flashing some big-play capabilities and mixing in a consistent veteran approach. Special teams will still be critical to his chances, but he is closing in on making the final 53.
Jaelyn Duncan had a good day
The Titans’ starting offensive line is set, but depth is a huge question mark, and tackle Jaelyn Duncan is beginning to flash. After looking good in 1-on-1 pass rush reps, he looked solid in team periods, catching the eye of former Titans tackle Brad Hopkins.

There was no change to the status of L’Jarius Sneed or Lloyd Cushenberry, as both players remain on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list.
Head coach Brian Callahan did not mention Blake Hance (calf) or Isaiah Raikes (undisclosed) during his media availability, announcing only T’Vondre Sweat (abdomen) and Calvin Ridley (rest) would be sitting out of practice. Sweat is listed as day-to-day.
Peter Skoronski did leave the field for a short period after turning his ankle, but talked to the media following practice and said it was nothing serious.
#Titans Peter Skoronski went in right after practice with a trainer. He came back out later to talk to media. “Just a little roll up. Nothing concerning.”
