Kyonte Hamilton’s rookie season is all but over, barring a comeback for the postseason.

According to KPRC 2 Sports’ Aaron Wilson, Hamilton suffered a broken ankle that will require surgery, which is expected to sideline him for roughly four months. The Houston Texans elected to place him on the injured reserve list Friday afternoon and signed former Auburn star Marlon Davidson to the active roster.

Hamilton, the Texans‘ 6-foot-4, 304-pound seventh-round draft pick out of Rutgers, was injured during Wednesday’s practice in team drills. He was carted off the field with an air cast on his left leg and needed immediate medical attention.

“As we’re practicing at training camp, unfortunately, injuries and things happen,” Texans coach Demeco Ryans said following practice. “You never want to see a guy go down like Kyonte went down today and had to be carted off. We just wish him the best. We’ll continue to evaluate him and see where he is, but you never want to see that. You’ve just got to make sure we’re staying up, protecting each other.”

Hamilton played five seasons with the Scarlet Knights, appearing in 51 games with over 40 starts. He finished his college career with 110 tackles — 11 for loss, including six sacks, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and 45 quarterback pressures. Per ProFootball Focus, Hamilton played in 1,781 defensive snaps over his five seasons on campus.

The Texans head to West Virginia for practices next week before playing the Minnesota Vikings in their first preseason game next Saturday at USBank Stadium.
