ALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions added some offensive line depth after veteran Dan Skipper was spotted leaving their preseason debut in a walking boot.

Detroit signed former Las Vegas Raiders and New England Patriots offensive lineman Justin Herron. The Lions waived defensive lineman Raequan Williams in their corresponding move.

Herron hasn’t played too many snaps on the O-line since entering the league in 2020. His most playing time came in 2021 and 2020, splitting time between left and right tackle in New England. Herron has also seen some work as the extra blocker, which fits in nicely with Skipper’s situation and another exhibition game on the docket this week.

The 29-year-old has not seen regular-season action since 2023, when he appeared in six games, starting once for the Raiders. He was a sixth-round pick of the Patriots out of Wake Forest in 2020, spending last year on injured reserve due to a knee injury while with the New Orleans Saints. Herron also suffered a season-ending ACL injury in 2022.

While at Wake Forest, he suffered an ACL injury in the 2018 opener that ended his season, so Herron has had to fight through a lot to keep coming back.

Skipper left the team’s preseason-opening loss to the Los Angeles Chargers and did not return. There has been no update from the team on his status, yet. Lions head coach Dan Campbell is expected to address reporters before practice on Sunday.

Williams played 22 defensive snaps in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday against the Chargers. He had no tackles but one pressure that night. The former Michigan State standout has seen game action while with the Philadelphia Eagles, and has also spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Carolina Panthers since entering the NFL in 2020.
