Former Panthers player arrested on felony charge, reports say

  • August 3, 2025

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) – A NFL player who had a brief stint with the Carolina Panthers was arrested Friday and is facing felony charges, according to reports.

ESPN reported that linebacker Denzel Perryman, who currently plays for the Los Angeles Chargers, was arrested the night of Aug. 1 and was charged with a felony weapons offense.

Records showed Perryman was arrested in Los Angeles and was taken to the L.A. County jail.

ESPN reported that the arrest came after deputies pulled Perryman over. During the traffic stop, they found five guns in his vehicle, two of which were said to have been AR-style rifles. He was reportedly on his way to a gun range, according to TMZ.

In a statement to ESPN, the Chargers said they were “aware of” the matter and were “gathering information. Perryman’s agent said in a statement to NFL Network that the 32-year-old player would ”fully cooperate with the process.”

Perryman recorded 55 tackles and a sack in 11 games with the Chargers in 2024. He was selected to his only Pro Bowl in 2021.

The linebacker had a short stint with Carolina a few years back … so short that he was traded before the regular season started.

Perryman signed with the Panthers in March 2021, spent training camp with the team and was on the roster for the first two preseason games before he was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders for a draft pick on Aug. 25, 2021.

The “highlight” of his Panthers tenure perhaps came on his drive to training camp when he was ticketed for going 91 mph on the way to Wofford College in Spartanburg, S.C.

Following the trade to the Raiders, Perryman racked up a career-high 154 tackles in 2021. He stayed in Las Vegas for 2022, signed with the Texans in 2023, and rejoined the Chargers in 2024 — the same place he started his career from 2015-2020.

Perryman is a veteran starter in the NFL and figures to be a key part of the Chargers’ defense in 2025.
