The season is almost upon us, and Nebraska football coach Matt Rhule opened up at Big Ten media days about expectations for his third season at Nebraska.
The third season for Rhule has been the golden one. He went 10-4 in his third season at Temple in 2015. He went 11-3 in his third season at Baylor in 2019. Now, he looks to orchestrate the same kind of turnaround for the Huskers. The team went 7-6 in 2024 and won the Pinstripe Bowl.
The Huskers have reloaded on both sides of the football, adding depth and talent. On top of this, second-year quarterback Dylan Raiola should be able to take a significant leap. The schedule should also work in Nebraska’s favor, with a favorable start to the year.
Rhule indicated that this Nebraska program is following the exact blueprint that his Temple and Baylor programs did.
“Well, I don’t know if I can promise it, but I’m certainly expecting to be that type of a team. You know we’ve kind of followed the same blueprint, and I think our guys are in a position where they expect to win 10 games, 11 games. They expect to go play in the (College Football) Playoff. they see what I see, and I see a really good team.”
Rhule has mastered the art of turning around a program. Getting the Huskers to a 10-win level would certainly be quite the achievement, given where they were just three seasons ago. At any rate, it sounds like the program will be fun to watch this fall, in what is a highly anticipated season.
Nebraska will open the 2025 college football season on Thursday, August 28, when the Huskers face the Cincinnati Bearcats at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. CT.
