Do the New York Giants suddenly have a wealth of talent where they can now start trading some of it away?

That’s what some experts believe. In a recent piece for ESPN, Seth Walder suggests the Giants can afford to trade outside linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux with rookie Abdul Carter in the fold.

The proposed deal would send Thibodeaux and a 2026 fifth-round pick to the Green Bay Packers for their 2026 second-round pick.

There is nothing inherently wrong with having three talented players at edge rusher, because it’s a premium position and the Giants can rotate snaps. But it makes sense for them to divest from Thibodeaux. That’s because they are still in a rebuild and noncontenders in 2025; they are extremely invested at the position after spending top-five picks on Thibodeaux and Abdul Carter and after trading for and handing a big contract to Brian Burns. They have plenty of holes to fill in 2026, the earliest they could feasibly contend.

Former Giants general manager Ernie Accorsi always said that you can never have enough pass rushers. He was rarely wrong. What Walder doesn’t take into account is that Carter and Thibodeaux are not exactly interchangeable.

While Thibodeaux is a pure outside rusher and backer, Carter can play anywhere on the second level as well as along the defensive line.

Sure, they could use another Day 2 pick in next year’s draft, but the give here seems to be more than the get. Lose the fifth-round sweetener, and this deal would make a little bit more sense for the Giants.
