The Miami Dolphins signed former Seattle Seahawks, Chicago Bears, and Cleveland Browns starting offensive lineman Germain Ifedi, the team announced Sunday. To make room for Ifedi on the roster, the Dolphins waived rookie quarterback Brett Gabbert.
Ifedi, 31, was a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft and spent the first four seasons of his career in Seattle. After spending his rookie season at right guard, Ifedi was the Seahawks’ starting right tackle for almost all of the next three seasons. He then played two seasons with the Bears where he split time between right guard and right tackle.

In the last three seasons, Ifedi spent time on the Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, Buffalo Bills, and Cleveland Browns rosters. He finished last year as the Browns’ starting left tackle after Dawand Jones suffered a season-ending injury.
In eight NFL seasons, Ifedi has appeared in 117 games and started 90.
The Dolphins signed Ifedi after bringing in five offensive linemen for a workout Saturday in the wake of an injury suffered by starting right tackle Austin Jackson.
Gabbert was waived by the Dolphins in July, but re-signed to the roster Friday when Kader Kohou was moved to injured reserve. Miami now has three quarterbacks on the roster.
