A familiar face is back with the 49ers.
One year after spending part of his summer in the Bay, veteran wide receiver Robbie Chosen signed a one-year contract with San Francisco, the team announced Sunday. To make room for Chosen, the 49ers released fellow wideout Marquez Callaway.
The news comes after Chosen, 32, worked out for the 49ers on Saturday and expressed his gratitude on social media.
Similar to this season, the 49ers were dealing with injuries at the receiver position last summer when they signed Chosen after their first preseason game, but he failed to make the 53-man roster. The 49ers also were without Brandon Aiyuk when they signed Chosen last year due to a contract dispute, but this summer their No. 1 receiver is working his way back from a knee injury.
Following his training camp stint with the 49ers last year, Chosen signed with the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad and was released on Sept. 17 after appearing in two regular-season games, finishing with one reception for 5 yards.
Chosen went undrafted in the 2016 NFL Draft before signing a three-year contract with the New York Jets. Across his nine-season NFL career, he has played for the Jets, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals and Dolphins. He has appeared in 122 games with 86 starts, recording 380 receptions for 5,087 yards and 30 touchdowns, along with 16 carries for 98 yards on the ground during that span.
