Chiefs enter the “dog days” of training camp

  • August 4, 2025

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The weather was perfect, with temperatures in the 70s, but do not let that fool you. These are the “dog days” of Chiefs Training Camp.

Travis Kelce’s day seems to reflect that, as the NFL’s most famous and most successful tight end suffered through a largely frustrating day. The Mahomes to Kelce connection- that has helped carry the Chiefs to 5 Super Bowls and 3 titles- failed to click. Not once… or twice.. but on a number of occasions. But Coach Andy Reid says that does not reflect on how Kelce’s camp has gone.

“He’s done a good job. He’s in a rotation with Noah and so he’s done good- yeah.”

Fortunately, several of the team’s offensive stars did make big plays, as Rashee Rice continues to be the Chiefs most consistent receiver.

And Xavier Worthy has shown the speed and quickness that’s made him a star of the future. But the biggest pass play comes from a running back, as Isiah Pacheco made a great over the shoulder catch on this deep pass from Mahomes.

One man we did not see Sunday is Hollywood Brown, who remains out with what the coach calls a “Non-serious” ankle injury.

“It’s in that ankle area,” Reid said to the media. “And we just want to make sure he’s right- that’s how we want to come out of this thing. He is making progress, but we’ll just see.”

So while the defense won their share of the reps on Sunday, according to Coach Reid, the offense continues to grow and improve.

“We did a lot for a non-padded practice,” he told the media, “With that- progress being made.”

The chiefs will take Monday off before returning to the practice field.
