Saints free agent addition gives fans a new reason to root for him this season as he tries to win a starting job originally appeared on A to Z Sports.

Free agency stories are always an intriguing piece of the NFL offseason. Which teams were interested in who? Were there reasons that a veteran player wanted to go somewhere specific? did money make the difference? For the New Orleans Saints, an experienced reunion happened in their secondary when Isaac Yiadom signed with the team this offseason.

Isaac Yiadom badly wanted to return to New Orleans

“I knew I wanted to be here. I didn’t want to look anywhere else, I didn’t really care what it was… It’s just my happy place … I love New Orleans and I love being a Saint.” — Saints CB Isaac Yiadom

This is really heartfelt from Yiadom. There was a strong contingency that hated to see Yiadom leave New Orleans after his previous tenure. He played good football for them, better than most anyone expected. This time around, he is battling for a starting job – an opportunity that wasn’t quite as clear last time.

Yiadom spent last season with the San Francisco 49ers. He played in seventeen games with five starts.

Yiadom, at minimum, will probably be the third outside cornerback for the Saints this season. He could even start. As of now, I expect either Yiadom or rookie CB Quincy Riley to grab the starting role opposite Kool-Aid McKinstry to begin the regular season. The latter of that group has really impressed in training camp, and the other two have had bright moments as well.

I am intrigued to see who wins all of these battles on defense for New Orleans. At safety, the Saints must figure out who will start with Justin Reid. Could Danny Stutsman see starting time as a linebacker for New Orleans? What does the edge group look like to begin the season in a new scheme under Brandon Staley?

Still plenty left to be answered for the Saints. Regardless, Yiadom’s passion and hopefulness are clear and refreshing. He’a going to give his all for New Orleans in the secondary.
