Rookie Updates
Kain Medrano (205th overall) displayed his speed in some reps this week in pass coverage and also knifing through the offensive line quickly enough to blow up a run handoff. John Keim commented once that Medrano has flashed and been more impressive than 2024 rookie S/LB Dominique Hampton. Keep that in mind, as perhaps a final roster spot for that position could come down to one of those two.
Josh Conerly (28th overall) has seen action at both tackle positions. Several have assessed that Conerly has been both up and down in camp. The evaluations suggest that Conerly is overmatched. More than that, he is learning to adjust to NFL speed and rush techniques.
Jacory Croskett-Merritt has just about everyone referring to him as “Bill.” Selected 245th overall, Bill has impressed with his ability to cut upfield aggressively on run plays. There were times in 2024 when Dan Quinn kept four running backs on the roster, but also games when he only suited up three.
Jaylin Lane (128th overall) has impressed with his ball skills. His ability to return punts could mean he entirely replaces Jamison Crowder in that role. Also, the Commanders are looking for receivers to replace Olamide Zacchaeus and Dyami Brown, both of whom departed as free agents.
