The San Francisco Giants and New York Mets wrapped up a three-game series at Citi Field on Sunday while the NFL’s New York Giants are now fully into their training camp. That gave Joe Mauceri of New York’s WPIX a chance to reference an all-time classic Mike Francesa caller.
A caller asked Francesa if he thought the NFL’s Giants and MLB’s Giants ever got together when they were in the same town, noting the same franchise name and the fact that the San Francisco Giants used to play in New York. It was a bizarre call, particularly since, as Francesa noted, it seemed like a serious question.

On Sunday, WPIX recapped the Giants (San Francisco) defeating the Mets in their series finale. After playing video of Mets manager Carlos Mendoza discussing the loss, the sports report moved right into an update from the New York Football Giants training camp.
Mauceri smoothly bridged the transition between the two segments, saying, “No word on dinner plans for the San Francisco Giants and New York Giants.”
In our 5pm newscast, we showed the Mets loss to the San Francisco Giants. We followed that with a story about the New York Football Giants. @TheSportsGuyJoe understood the assignment.
