Josh Allen has mentioned multiple times how important training camp is for the players, but it’s just as important for his young fans.
There is no doubt that there are more fans of the Buffalo Bills these days because of Josh Allen. People who couldn’t have cared less about this team just a few short years ago are suddenly flocking to stores to buy Bills gear simply because he’s on the team.
That type of following doesn’t come from being good at football alone. A lot of it has to do with the way he treats his fans.
For many of his young fans, training camp is their one chance to see this giant football player and possibly get him to sign something for them.
Josh Allen sees some familiar faces at camp
Today, while signing autographs for some little kids, Josh got to see some faces that he knows pretty well from his visits to see them at Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo.
Allen has had a soft spot for these kids from the day that he got here. After the story leaked that Allen had played a game the day after his grandmother Patricia Allen passed away, Bills Mafia stepped up and started making donations to the hospital in $17 increments to support their young quarterback. Now, there’s a wing at the hospital named after her.
Josh only signs items for kids
Allen has told the story about how, when he was a kid, he went to a Padres game and was hoping to get the signature of a player who passed right by him. He said he remembered how that felt as a kid, and he said he never wanted to make another kid feel the way he did that day.
You can tell he means it. In many cases, you can hear people trying to usher him away as he sits there signing for as many kids as he possibly can.
We’re lucky to have the MVP on our team. He’s an amazing football player. But it’s things like this that make you believe he’s an even better human.
