The Denver Broncos are set to face the San Francisco 49ers in a joint training camp practice on Thursday ahead of their preseason showdown on Saturday evening.
Some NFL teams play their starters in joint practices and then rest them in preseason games as a precaution. Broncos coach Sean Payton has a different approach.

“There’s this feeling that, ‘Oh if I practice them a bunch, then I’m not gonna to play them in a game.’ We’re playing guys in the game,” Payton said after Monday’s practice.
A short, direct response from Payton.
The Super Bowl-winning coach believes in playing starters during preseason, so fans should expect to see quarterback Bo Nix and Co. out on the field against the 49ers this week.
The Broncos, of course, will be cautious with players who are nursing or coming back from injuries, but with few exceptions, Payton will play his starters in San Francisco.
