Socrates once said, “To fear death, my friends, is only to think ourselves wise, without being wise: for it is to think that we know what we do not know.”

“It is not death that a man should fear, but he should fear never beginning to live,” said Marcus Aurelius.

“No evil is honorable; but death is honorable; therefore death is not evil.” Zeno of Citium supposedly said.

Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel walks among those legends of philosophy, even if he could stand to win a few more playoff games.

McDaniel met with the media on Monday to discuss the team’s practice and upcoming season. A reporter wished him a good morning, to which McDaniel responded that the reporter should “stand corrected.”

“Good morning? False,” said McDaniel. “Great morning, let’s go.”

When asked what made this a great morning, McDaniel brought a little Stoicism to the proceedings.

“Because we’re another day closer to death,” he deadpanned.

While some in the room laughed, perhaps others pondered, much like Seneca and Epictetus before them, if death is simply a natural and inevitable part of life and not something to be feared but embraced.

That or he’s just really tired of Tyreek Hill’s sh*t.
