Cam Ward being named the Tennessee Titans starting quarterback was no surprise when the team released its unofficial depth chart ahead of its Aug. 9 preseason game at Tampa Bay.

Ward was the clear-cut choice after being picked No. 1 in the 2025 NFL Draft, and after last season’s starter, Will Levis, opted to have season-ending shoulder surgery.

Ward’s backup was a bit more of a mystery. The Titans are going with Brandon Allen at No. 2, according to the chart.

The Titans signed Allen as a free agent this past offseason after he spent two seasons in San Francisco. The former Arkansas Razorbacks player has completed 166-of-293 passes for 1,810 yards and 11 touchdowns in nine NFL seasons.

A few other takeaways:

● Nine rookies are listed at No. 2 at their respective positions — notably Kevin Winston Jr. He was a third-round draft pick out of Penn State in April and has turned heads in preseason training camp.

● Calvin Ridley, Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson are listed as starting receivers.

● Tony Pollard is listed as the starting running back.

● What will the Titans look like defensively? The chart shows a 3-4 scheme, with five defensive backs and a nickel DB.
