Pittsford, N.Y. — The Buffalo Bills are leading a new push to provide meals to children in need.
The team’s foundation presented a $167,147 check to No Kid Hungry New York during training camp Monday.
The money will help fund the nonprofit’s summer grants, which help several local school districts and organizations in rural areas provide free summer meals to students.
Students from the Le Roy Central School District, which is one of 10 organizations that will benefit from the donation, got a chance to meet Bills players at training camp Monday.
The group also received free backpacks filled with hydration supplies.
“This event is more than a day at training camp: it’s a powerful statement about what’s possible when communities come together to support children,” Rachel Sabella, director of No Kid Hungry New York, said in a statement. “Thanks to partners like the Buffalo Bills Foundation, we’re not only raising awareness about no-cost summer meals, but also reminding families that help is out there and that no child should go hungry during the summer.”
Through the new grant, Le Roy schools will provide free grab-n-go summer meals to students every Tuesday and Thursday.
Other districts and organizations that will receive grants include:
Clyde-Savannah Central School District — will serve kids eat-in meals at two school sites in Clyde. The program will also deliver five days of meals directly to students homes throughout Clyde and Savannah.Lyons Central School District — will deliver seven days of meals each week directly to the homes of kids who are unable to access meals at their school site.
