The San Francisco 49ers have three picks in the final round of the 2025 NFL Draft. If any of these three picks make the roster, it would be a win for the 49ers. With the 227th pick, the Niners selected Indiana quarterback Kuris Rourke.
Rourke’s best trait shouldn’t be surprising. It’s that he’s a quick decision-maker. Kyle Shanahan has been adamant that his quarterbacks not only know where to go with the football but can process information. Rourke, who is 6’4” and 220 pounds, does that well and has the ball placement that helped Indiana win a bunch of games last season.
He’s not mobile at all, and those athletic limitations, paired with an injury history, are why Rourke fell to the seventh round. Still, Rourke has draftable qualities. Short accuracy, release, and height/weight are all parts of his game that would make any evaluator interested.
Rourke will compete with Mac Jones as the 49ers’ backup. That is if he’s healthy. ESPN reported that Rourke underwent surgery in early January to repair the tear in his right knee in preparation for the NFL Draft. He played the entire 2024 season with a torn ACL. Rourke tore the same knee in 2022 when he was at Ohio.
